Here are a few pictures to get you thinking about the winter. That is if we ever get any ice. These are from last season and we had a good year. I won 100$ in a contest with the perch and alot of walleye were had. The ice was just enough and the conditions scared off most of the snowmachiners which resulted in a nice quiet year on the ice. Won't be long now and I believe we will be in shantyland yet again.

Hi all, I was having some serious trouble with the blogg action as I could not recover my pass word to save my xxx. Joe it is good to be able to see all the deer and other stuff on your blog and to hear the stories.
Tom Rebisz and I went Muzzleloading the last week end in the northern zone. I had four days off and I could not get in front of a deer to save myself. I had all intentions of shooting two or three and I ended up not even shooting. Normally I have shot up a storm during this late season. No snow at home and extremely warm weather made it kind of crappy for the deer hunting. I spent two days around the house and saw only a flash of one deer (Thursday and Friday). I went up to the property in Providence on that Saturday night and we started seeing some deer. There was just a little snow, about a half inch- perfect! It was nice getting into the camp and this camp is secluded, it is off the road a couple of miles and when you sleep in it, there are no cars/trucks going by, just total silence. A big difference from the Speculator camp. I love it there and it is big woods, but hearing a car/truck going by is a frequent occurrence. Funny how you notice small things like that. I got into the Providence camp about 9:30, when I went to bed I had it up to 65 degrees and I loaded the stove, it was up to 85 degrees a couple hours later. Four wheeling in on a rough trail is a nice adventure.
Tom saved the day by shooting two, a small one by the house on Saturday and a big doe, on Sunday up on our property. He shot twice on Sunday and I saw three but did not get a good shot so I did not shoot. Tom saw something like nine or ten. Much more deer sign in by the camp though and I kind of kicked myself for hunting two whole days with no deer being had around the house. There have been a lot of guys hunting around the house this year and it seems to be taking it's toll. This year was a slow one for our gang, Tom got the two does with the muzzleloader the last weekend and nothing else. John got none. I got that small doe in Letchworth and my eleven pointer and nothing else (I can't complain). I had my multiple chances in Letchworth and blew it. I did not see anything to shoot up here after that though and I hunted alot.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year hope all is well with everyone happy and healthy-God Bless!

Here are some better pictures of Nathans buck and some of the guys. Thanks for the photos Criag!
Okay, okay, marines and hunting are not the same thing, but they both wear camo. And there is no way I could delete this little gem of an email without sharing it first. Remember that it does not have to be true to be enjoyed. Oh, and thanks to Scott's wife, Mindy, for sending it to me in the first place. ~Joce

A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan .

One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist and a member of the ACLU. One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes."The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am God. I'm still waiting." It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold. The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently.

The other students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, "What the hell is the matter with you? Why did you do that?"
The Marine calmly replied, "God was too busy today protecting America's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid $&!% and act like an @$$...............so, He sent me."

Hey Guys,
It's been a long time since my last post. Sorry about the wait, but with moving to a new house and gun season opening up things have been really crazy. I guess I have so much to discuss that I will just ramble on a bit and intermittenly post pictures. I had a good gun season including several deer harvested off my own property behind my new house. How cool to walk outside your house, load your gun, and start hunting. I shot two does within 150 yards of my house (really nice short drags). I went back and got Jocelyn and Brilyn to help me drag them out. I ended the season well too. On the last Friday of the season Larry, Dad, Nate, and Stryker went hunting with me to Letchworth. I ended up shooting a nice 8 pointer (no, not the huge one I am holding just the head of in the picture) and a doe. The buck weighed 170, which would mean a live weight of around 260. The antlers had a 17 inch spread and scored around 105. Not to bad for the last weekend of the season. I also saw 5 different bucks hunting with a muzzleloader after shotgun season, so that means there are a lot of bucks around for next year. One of the bucks I saw was a nice 10 pointer that was bedded in high grass 6 yards from me. I saw that deer last Sunday. It would have scored 120-125. So next year it should be real big. I can't wait. The big buck in the picture that I am holding just it's head was hit by a car right next to where I hunt the day before shotgun season opened. Shame I didn't see him with my bow. He scored about 140. I also posted pictures of Larry and Jocelyn's dad with their respective bucks. I chased the bucks to both of them and they shot them within 30 yards of each other. Jocelyn's dad on the second day of the gun season, and Larry during muzzleloader season. Overall I had a great season. Shot lots of deer, hung out with friends and family, and drank a few celebration beers. I am looking forward to ice fishing, tributary fishing, rabbit hunting and goose hunting next week over Christmas vacation. Posts will be much more frequent from hear on out.
I'll post what I know about everyone else who reads and posts on the blog, but I would appreciate if you would post yourself to update/clarify my posts.
Larry - After shooting at does on the lease during bow and gun season ended up taking a four point with me in Letchworth with his muzzleloader.
Nate - After shooting at a couple of nice bucks (with a bow and gun) and does on the lease, shot a nice 8 point buck (see preivious picture from Larry). He also shot a doe hunting Letchworth with me on the last weekend of shotgun season. Great work!
Adam - Also shot at does on the lease. Ended up taking three does.
Mr. Moore - Shot two does on the lease. Also shot an eight point (I believe) back home in PA. Good Job!
Shaun - Haven't heard from him since he came to Letchworth to bow and gun hunt. He saw and shot at several nice bucks. Please post soon and let me know how your season went.
Andy - Shot at least one doe, but I don't know any more. Like to hear from you soon Andy.
Mr. Steiner - Shot a doe with his gun and is getting ready for goose season (me too!!!)
Mr. Baker - Shot a handful of does, but didn't connect on any bucks.
Scott Withers - Haven't heard from Scott since bow season. He had a very successful bow season though (see his previous posts). I'd like to hear how gun season went Scott!
Dad - Shot two does with his gun.
Uncle John - Shot two does with his gun.
Stryker - Missed a big doe in my backyard (more hunting next year hopefully)
Tor - Haven't heard anything from Tor in a long time. Love to see a post.
Scott Schlede - Killing the Browns and Steelhead no doubt. I'll find out next week when I go fishing with him. He has his own blog now and doesn't really post here.

Have a great Christmas and New Years Guys!!!

Tomorrow We shoot everything that moves and is brown.

Good Work Nate. Spooty shot this buck Dec 3 on the Deer Lease in Churchville. It is 16 inches inside. Pretty buck with nice white antlers. The live weight was 190lbs. The story goes this way. I watched this buck walk into the spot I was hunting at 8am. It came in with another half rack 8 pointer which will be a nice buck next year. I was itchy to shoot it, but it came in slow enough that i had plenty of time to measure it and score it in my mind... great buck, just a little smaller than what i was looking for. I texted nate at 845 and let him know that the two bucks were bedded under my tree and i was going to climb down and do a short push to him (not intending on pushing these bucks to him). Once i got to the ground the bucks trouted off, not too spooked. Minutes later i heard nate shoot. Sure enough, this buck and two smaller bucks ran right across the field he was watching. He shot the deer twice on the run! Not too bad. The deer will score right around 100 inches. Good Buck Spooty. Of courese we harassed him furociously about it being a small buck (only by lease standards), but in the end, its a great deer and will taste tremendous.

Some better pics of my buck!
How does everyone feel about people hunting in fenced in enclosures? I personally don't agree with it. I am sick of turning on the hunting channel and seeing Keith Warren and a few others, hunting a high fence area were there are 20 bucks standing over a feeder 50 yards away while hunting them with a rifle. I don't feel that this is real hunting no matter how big the pen is. I feel that the people hunting like that have lost touch with what hunting is all about. And all they care about is a huge rack, and have no respect for that animal. That is just my opinion, please share your thoughts.

Hunted in the Orchard stand in Letchworth this evening (same stand I shot my buck out of). Had a nice yearling 8pt come in. He was about 10-12 yards away for 15 minutes. Could have put a good shot on him, but I decided to save my tag (and Jocelyn said I can't shoot any more bucks unless they are really big because they don't taste very good [Bucky flavor I believe is her term]). I am hunting tomorrow all day in Letchworth with Larry. We should drop a deer or two between us. On Saturday I am going to fish Sandy again. Then back to the woods Sunday (of course Joce is away vising the in-laws which is why I have so much time to hunt and fish.) Next Saturday opens guns season...I cant wait. I'll post and let you know how I do tomorrow and Saturday. I attached another picture of a fish Scott and I caught last weekend. Shoot Straight.

This is my dads deer, shot on oct. 20

This is the 8 pt I shot Nov. 2nd!

This is the big boy I shot yesterday morning! I shot him 200 yards from where my dad shot his 9 pt.

I went out this mourning and saw 14 deer. I was standing up and glassing in the bean field behind me and I heard a buck grunting, I turned around and saw 2 deer run into the corn about 75 yards away. I didn't get a good look at the buck but I knew he was pretty small. So I bleated a few times to try and keep the doe in the area. About 5 min later I saw this monster walk out of the corn. I grunted and he started posturing and side steppin towards me, I didn't know how tall his tines were but figured he was about 19" wide so I knew he was a shooter. He started walking towards me and then smelled where the doe ran into the corn a few min. Earlier and ran into the corn. I heard deer running towards me so I got ready then all of the sudden the doe busted out the side of the corn and started to run across the field away from me with the buck on her tail. She got about 50 yards into the field and me heart sank. Then all at once she turned on a dime and came running rate at me. I came to full draw, she jumped the ditch and ran through the corn about 15 yards away. I had me pin fixed on the bucks front shoulder as he was running at me he jumped the ditch and I bleated with my mouth to stop him, but he didn't even slow down. I bleated 3 more times each one louder than the previous but he didn't stop, at this time he was broadside at 15 yards so I put the pin on his shoulder and squeezed! wack! I heard the arrow hit and seen it ruffle his fur rate behind his shoulder. He ran through the corn and dropped about 60 yards away. I got down and went to pick up my dad. I knew he was down but I wanted him there to track it with me. The buck has a 19" outside spread just as I guessed, and is very thick all the way through, he has 11 points. ( 14 if you count the red-neck way) I think he is 3 1/2. I weighed him at work and live weight was 204. My best yet with a bow! I love the rut.
Good luck! Scott

Monday, November 06, 2006

The last time I was out was Sunday mourning I seen 6 bucks. 2 real nice, that looked to be at least 3 1/2 judging by body size and horns, but they were a long way off. A nice 6 came in close but I'm waiting for the one I seen on sat night,at least a 130" well over 200lbs. He stood only 75 yards out for about 20 min. I grunted and bleated him to death but he wouldn't come in. If I can talk the wife into it, I think I am going back to Wisconsin this weekend, we will see what happens. Good luck
Scott
Deer Everywhere!!

Well we have seen a ton of bucks.. needless to say, im not sure how I feel about QDM now that I am now a practicing member of the QDMA. Its wierd to pass up on two different bucks, both bigger than any NY/PA buck I have ever shot. Needless to say, if I see those in Letchworth with Joey on Friday, they are getting shot at... not necessarily killed, but at least wounded badly.

Weekend Update

Alright, it's been awhile so let me catch you guys up:

Friday: Hunted my cabin stand in Letchworth for the evening stretch. Didn't see any deer, but I did see three big coyotes. They were within 15 yards of me. In retrospect I should have shot one, but at the time I didn't want to use a broadhead. But really who do you know that has ever shot a coyote with a bow. I would have had it made into a rug too. Too bad.

Saturday: Hunted my cabin stand in Letchworth for the morning stretch. Saw a decent 2.5 year old 6 or 8 point buck early (about 35 yards) and a doe right before I left.

Sunday: Fished Sandy with Scott Schleede in the morning. We fished until about noon. What an unbelievable day we had. I had to switch my fly rod to mono to float egg sacks (that's how Scott was catching them early). I just wrapped 30 yards of 8lb test onto my fly reel and fished egg sacks (Scott's super-duper homemade recipe) under a float (read bobber). And boy did we kill them. We caught 22 fish in all. There were 11 steelhead, 9 browns, and 2 salmon. What a great morning. I can't wait to go back next weekend. Scott's big brown and steelhead were about 10 lbs each. Enjoy the pictures.

Sunday: Hunted for 1.5 hours before dark. Saw three does and 22, 387, 901 squirrels.

Have a great week guys and shoot straight (this means you Moore Brothers, who each missed or wounded a deer this weekend).

Thursday, November 02, 2006

Finally!! I went out tonight and after sitting for an hour or so I seen 3 does running my way about 250 yards away. I was looking at them with my binoculars and noticed that they kept looking behind them, we all know what that means in Nov. I kept watching behind them and wow there he was chasing about 75 yards behind. I lost sight of the does as I was watching the buck, he then went into the tall grass and I lost sight of him, as I was watching I heard something under me I looked and saw the 3 does moving quickly through the corn in front of me about 25 yards away. I could only pray that the buck followed. After what seemed like an eternity ( about 3 min.) I pulled out my doe bleat and hit it 3 times. Nothin so I pulled out my grunt call grunted twice and bam he just appeared out of nowhere standing on the edge of the corn. The grunting got him all fired up and he started rackin the tree he was by with his horns. He then came into the corn and was Rubin the stalks. I came to full draw and grunted with my mouth to stop him. He stopped at about 25 yard. I put the pin on his shoulder and squeezed the trigger. I didn't see the arrow, but he hunched up a bit and ran off like he wasn't hit. At first I felt like jumping out of my tree stand, but instead I looked through my binoculars and seen a bright red arrow! I could hear him running through the corn and all of the Sudan I seen corn go flyin and heard him crash (about 30 yards away)! He is a nice 2 1/2 yr old 8 point with a 13" spread and 6" G2's I will post pics of him and my dads deer tomorrow. Good luck every one!
A very happy hunter
Scott
Hey all. It's been about 10 days since I last hunted (the day I shot my buck). The terrible weather last weekend kept me out of the woods. This weekend looks great though, and I am really psyched. I plan to hunt tomorrow evening and Saturday morning in my go-to spot. Let me update you on everyones adventures since no one else is posting.

Larry: Hunted a ton over the weekend and this week in Letchworth and on his lease. Hasn't seen a good buck in shooting range yet (and those does are keeping away from him too [ I always told him the does are harder to get than you think]).

Adam: Saw a good buck on the lease Saturday at a distance. No does shot yet (similar to Larry)

Nate: Has seen a few bucks (one good buck I believe) and does. No does shot yet (Similar to Adam)

Andy Steiner: Been shooting a lot of geese and seeing some deer. Missed a doe early in the season. Still working on his first bow deer (coming home to hunt this weekend and next. Probably hook up to hunt ducks/geese at some point).

Scott Withers: My Michigan cruise buddy has been seeing some nice bucks, but nothing big enough within range recently. He wounded and lost a nice buck early in the season (he worked very hard to find it and was really bummed). His dad shot a nice 9-pointer I believe and we are still waiting to see pictures.

Mr. Baker: Hunting a lot in the Silver Lake Park and Letchworth areas. He has seen a bunch of does and small bucks, but nothing worth shooting yet.

Scott Schleede: Has been secretly fishing the tributaries and killing (meaning catching a ton, not actually murdering them) the fish. Once the creek floods or all the fish return to the lake I expect he will post hundreds of pictures of gigantic salmon, browns, and rainbows that he caught this fall. I know for sure that he did catch one Brown that went 18lbs (huge).

Jocelyn: Getting ready to hunt deer from our new backyard with her muzzleloader and Leupold 3-9 power scope.

Dad: Only hunts with me (and even then only once in a while), so he has not been out recently.

Matt: Plans on hunting a bit with a gun (if he ever actually buys his license).

Tor: Cancelled on us fishing next weekend. In his defense he is the only one posting regularly besides myself. Hope he is doing well in Texas with his pregnant wife [me too] (as it snows outside here [one half inch already tonight and it is still coming...yippy!!!]).

Cousin Shaun: Already shot the biggest buck any of us will take this season, so I figure he is kicking back and relaxing. ..Yeah right...Shuan is probably 10 miles up a mountain, across three rivers and two lakes to shoot a doe. Yes he is still the only REAL man I know or have ever met.
He will be up to hunt Letchworth next week for the remainder of bow season and a few days of gun season. It should be a ton of fun. Feel free to come down and hunt with him and myself if you are around.

Stryker: Shot a deer with a nuisance permit this summer and felt bad about it, so he has not been out with his bow yet. He has come up with some of the greatest excuses of all time the last few weeks to not go out hunting though. It is almost worth having him not hunt just to hear his wonderful excuses.

Mr. Moore and Pork: After hunting an entire week in Letchworth without a shot (third year in a row) have probably decided to shoot the first butten buck that walks by tomorrow (I know I would [and do]). They have seen a few does, a couple yearling bucks, and a nice buck at a distance.

There it is, a complete summary of everyone's hunting and fishing adventures. If that doesn't get some comments and posts coming I don't know what will. The attached picture is a button buck tha was in my backyard earlier this week. He let me get out of my car and go inside the house, come back out with my bow and my camera, take several pictures of him at 15 yards, and draw my bow and aim to shoot (I decided not to shoot him at 10 yards because we seemed to of become friends...he trusted me so much). A couple more experience like that, I may have to stop hunting all together. Had to of lost his mom or something and never learned to be afraid of humans. Later my peeps.

My dad and I went hunting Wed night, just before dark he called me and said that he had shoot at a nice buck, but wasnt sure if he had hit him it was pretty dark. I got down and walked over, by then he had found blood so we started tracking. This was the biggest blood trail I have ever seen. we found him about 40 yards into the corn. He hit it in the liver. Im almost positive it was the buck I spoke about last time. A good 9 pt about 115" I will post pictures later. I am getting ready to leave for Buffalo county now. wish me luck.

Scott
ANTLER RESTRICTIONS
I don't know about you guys, but antler restrictions are a major hunting concern of mine today. New York is looking into adopting restrictions starting next year. I am not yet sure where I stand on the subject, especaily with statewide mandated antler restrictions. So I was just hoping you could post your beliefs and thoughts on antler restrictions. Be sure to give support for your opinion so we can all learn. BY the way, the picture attched is a friend of mine from Perry who shot this buck (his first with a bow) last weekend. Thanks guys.

Im Trying, Leave Me Alone

Well needless to say, I have put a good deal of time into hunting already this year. It seems to be this way every year. I passed up a few shots at does and have seen a couple bucks that are not quite shooters (naturally these bucks milled around at 10 yards for several minutes too).

A couple of hunting highlights though - saw my first in-stand coyote that must have weighed 60lbs, HUGE!

A few days ago, Nathan and I had a flock of 25 turkey feeding within 5 yards of us.. I always find this amazing because it never happens in turkey season, I think turkeys can smell shotguns. I also waded across a small stream that turned out to be about three feet deep.. needless to say, my boots are still wet.

Outside of that, Joe's buck kill day is fairly typical of the weather we have been having, cold, raining, and definitely windy. Im off to Letchworth this weekend to brave the cold and ensure that I will get sick by Thanksgiving.

Monday, October 23, 2006

Congratulations Joe, my buddy shot an eight point tonight also, about a mile from where I was hunting. I didn't see any tonight. I am leaving this weekend for BUFFALO COUNTY cant wait, they have been seeing some awesome bucks. Good luck

Scott

Hunted Letchworth Park this evening (opening day of the park). Got in my tree stand at about 4:00. It was about 35 degrees and throughout the evening I saw rain, snow, hail, sleet and yes freezing rain. The wind was a little harder than I wanted and I was ticked right away because there were three new scrapes (made this morning) within 30 yards of my stand. I almost went out this morning, but changed my mind at the last minute (ask Larry...I called him at the McDonalds parking lot at 5:40 to tell him I wasn't coming). Anyway, I didn't see anything until about 5:30. At that time I had a large deer (in retrospect probably a doe) running around downwind of me at about 60 yards. I couldn't tell what it was for sure and it just ran off. So now I figure the deer have winded me and my hunt is a bust. Two minutes later doesn't this buck step out of the thick stuff and into my shooting lane. He stepped right up to one of the new scrapes and started working it. I decided to take him (after I judged he was a two and a half year old 8-point) as he began rubbing his eye (orbital gland I believe) on the licking branch over the scrape. I aimed a little high (because I shot under that doe the other day) at hit him in the spine. He dropped instantly and I got out of my stand and finished him off. Got my dad and dragged him (the deer, not my dad) out. He is the largest bodied deer I have ever shot (230 pounds on the hoof...that's more than I weigh). Decent eight pointer with a fifteen inch inside spread. I'm very happy with him. Now maybe I can spend some more time hunting ducks, geese, turkeys, and fishing the tributaries. Jocelyn also wanted me to say that now I can spend more time with her (I told her of course that was a given). Good luck guys and shoot straight!

Hi Guys. Spent the weekend duck hunting. We had a blast. We were hunting in some flooded timber. The ducks were everywhere and they were very cooperative. Andy Steiner called many flocks right into our decoys. We had all the shooting you could want. Saturday I went through 22 shells. We shot 9 ducks total, and I took home 4. Sunday I went through 16 shells, we shot 9 ducks total, I took three home and still made it in time for church at 9:30. Overall, an awesome weekend of duck hunting. I guess it is ok to give up some days of deer hunting now and then for a little high-quality ducking. Anyway, good luck hunting this week boys.

Sunday, October 22, 2006

Tonight we had terrible weather, 20 mph winds and rain. So I thought it would be a good day to stalk through the corn. It took me about 2 hours and I seen a few does, but when I came out I walked to the end of the tree line. It is a good intersection to the north is about a 200 acre alfalfa field to the south is a tree line that separates beans and the corn field I was just in. When I got close I could see deer in the beans, about 150 yards away. I took a better look with my binoks and seen 2 does I started scanning to the left and wow! A huge eight point standing there feeding. pry around 115" - 120" so I got on the edge of this thicket and waited hoping he would walk by after a few minutes I caught something coming at me fast and low to the ground. I looked and it was a skunk about 10 yards and coming rate at me. So I crawled out towards the field where the deer were feeding, I grunted at the buck a few times but it was so windy I don't think he could hear me. I sat there until dark but the buck never came any closer. I also went out Friday and seen a nice buck at dark only 20 yards or so but he walked into the corn before I could shoot. shoot em straight
Scott

Hey guys and girls, I am in the blog business now. I wanted to show you guys a deer I shot yesterday just up the road from the house. It was the biggest one I ever shot! And I did not even have to drag it through the adirondacks for several miles with no trail. The drag was about 200 yards to my friend's son's waiting four wheeler(just doesn't seem right). I went hunting with some friends that I occaisionally go hunting with (usually about 1-3 times a year and usually on opening day in the northern zone)and on the second drive this monster comes out and to within 60 yards I was able to down him on the first shot with Uncle Ralph and Aunt Ann's old Stevens 30/30 bolt action. I had to wait when I first saw it at about 120 yards I almost shot but forced myself to wait a little as it was coming my way. I then lost sight of it for a few seconds and then it popped out on a trot at about 60 yards and I was able to get a good shot on it. I shot it once more to make sure (but this was unneeded cheap insurance). It wieghed 213 pounds and was an eleven pointer. I am very pleased to say the least. 17.5 inch inside spread and 20.5 inch outside spread with a lot of mass.

Hi guys. Scott, it's good to see you finally signed up to post. I look forward to keeping up with your hunting adventures. Everyone else...come on, let's get some posts up here. I know you are hunting Larry, Adam, and Nate...And you are secretly fishing Scott Schleede. Let's see some posts.
Anyway, I went out again last night. I didn't see any deer, but I did see a huge Tom turkey and two hunters. Very exciting times. I was hunting a new stand...which, by the way, I will never hunt again. It was an aweful evening sit. At least the weatehr was nice.
On the horizon things are looking good for me. I am going swamp hunting for ducks Saturday (opening day). I haven't hunted an opening day for ducks in years. I'm pretty sure we are going to limit out. I am going with Mr. Baker and Mr. Steiner. I'll post pictures.
I attached a picture from the Memorial Day camping trip this year. With Uncle my John in it, I figured this was appropriate to kick off deer season and serious Letchworth Cabin drinking time. Between the Moore's, Rebisz's, and Shawn, we have the cabin straight through from the beginning of November until the second week of shotgun season. Until I write again...good luck and shoot straight all.

Hey Joe I just got set up on here. I see you went salmon fishin, I don't know if I told you on the cruise but my dad has a charter boat and we go out on lake Huron, for salmon and lakers. This summer you and jos should come over and we can all go out. I set another stand up last night, 4 scrapes and 2 rubs all within 50 yards. I'm on a tree line that runs between two big corn fields, cant wait till tonight. Talk to ya later.
Scott

Hi!
I just wanted to tell my side of the story.....
Joe got home at about the usual time. Nothing to blink at, you know. Brilyn had just gone to bed and I was settling down to some good ol' America's Funniest Home Videos. Joe comes into the living room all nonchalant and opens up his bow case. Right away I can see that there is one arrow covered in blood. I said, "Where is it?" Thinking he would point outside, I could run out real quick, and take a peek. Oh no, I am met with silence. So, Joe starts into the story, I sit back down, and 45 minutes later I call the babysitter to come over for a while so we can go get this deer. Her dad brings her over in a deer hunting frenzy (he hunts in our backyard, it's funny) and seeing that there is no deer yet, heads back home.
So, I run around getting my woods clothes on-camo pants, don't ya know- and a blaze orange hat, just in case. I also strap my Maglite to my belt after observing Joe's pathetic little thing he was carrying. I follow Joe to the car and we head off toward the farm. About 3/4 of the way there, I say, "Where are we gonna put the deer?" So, we turn around and come home to get the Jeep. I get in the Jeep, Joe runs into the house for one other thing we forgot and then comes out and almost gets in the Toyota again. Quite funny. Good thing I was already in the Jeep. Even funnier if he had left me and the Jeep at home, but anyway.
So, we get to the farm and we park in the parking lot. Not what I expected. And we walk about a mile to the edge of the woods and then walk into the woods on a road-type thing for a few hundred yards. The doe was lying right on the middle of this road thing deader than a door nail.
So we get a few pics and Joe puts on his super duper gloves I gave him while we were still in college. (They are vet gloves for when you have to stick your arm up a cow's.....)
Anyway. On the ride over we had speculated about where he had hit the deer. I thought probably liver since there were guts on the arrow, yet the deer had died very quickly. Joe thought lungs because he thought he had seen some bubbles in the blood. Turns out we were both right. Perfect little three-way cuts in both.
Also, the deer was definitely gut shot and when Joe first opened her up, I almost lost my second supper. I eat more than one supper nowadays. Pregnancy makes me hungry, and obviously a pansy when it comes to yucky smells.
Anyway, after that I led the way home to the parking lot while Joe dragged our meaty friend. We almost fell in a slurry pit, but otherwise it was pretty tame. The night was beautiful with stars overhead and a lovely brisk temperature.
At home, we paid the babysitter and gave her a ride home. Then we skinned and butchered the deer on the ground in 40 minutes. I think that is pretty dang impressive.
The next day we ate the tenderloins, the next day we packaged up the rest of the meat. It should last at least until Christmas. :)

Hi guys. I went hunting tonight at Silver Lake Park again. I saw four does that were too far away to shoot. It was beautiful weather (55 degrees and clear). Last night was my exciting night though. I saw nothing until 6:45, when five does came through. Needless to say it was really getting dark by this time. I shot at the second doe (biggest doe) when it entered my shooting lane at 6 yards. Of course I shot under her. So here I am fooling around trying to another arrow as the deer are running all around, coughing, etc. Anyway, I finally get an arrow in and doesn't the same doe get to within 20 yards of me. By this time it is so dark you can't really even see branches, much less twigs, but I was so angry at missing her that I decided to take the shot anyway. Well I drew my bow and tried to aim. Sadly it was too dark to see through my peep, and I couldn't see my pins. So I decided to shoot instincually (whichI had never done before of course). I shot and the doe ran away. I got down to gather up my arrows and couldn't find my second arrow. I finally found it (by now it was completly dark and my flashlight was running out of batteries) and wasn't it covered in blood. So I started following the blood trail (sparse). After going about 30 yards I decided to leave it until the morning. By loooking at and smelling my arrow, I was pretty sure she was gut shot. So as I am walking out of the woods, without a flashlight, don't I almost trip over her. She was lung shot and liver shot and only went about 45 yards. The arrow exited through her guts which was why it was covered in stomach contents. Anyway, I went home and got Jocelyn and we went out with serious flashlights (Jocelyn has an extremely dangerous Mag-lite I got her for Christmas a couple years back) and got the doe. It was a beautiful, clear, cool night and we had a great adventure finding, gutting, dragging, skinning, and butchering the deer (all before bed). Tonight when I got home from hunting we ate the tenderloin (unbelievable). Anyway, It was a great opening weekend. Catch you soon.

Hey guys! Deer season has begun...about time. And what a great day weather wise (30mph winds and snow). Anyway, I hunted from about 7:00-10:00 this morning in the Silver Lake Park. I wanted to be in my tree by 6:30, but old man Rebisz was running a bit late. The nice part was that it was light enough on my way in to my stand that when my flashlight batteries ran out I could see well enough to find my stand anyway. It was really cold (33) and snowy. I saw nothing until about 8:30. At that time I had three small bucks (4, 5, and 6 points) come in and play around my stand for about 45 minutes. It was really cool. At one point they were all sparring at the same time about 10 yards from my stand. I almost shot the six pointer, but decided to save my dad's tag for later in the season (haha). On the way out of the woods we jumped two bucks. One was a small six pointer and the other looked to be about 16-18" wide. He had long, thick main beams, but I couldn't make out much in the way of points. All in all a great morning. Hope everyone else did well. I'm heading back out in the morning (actually I'm going to pick my spot out right now.) I'll let you all know how I do. I attached pictures of two does Larry and I shot on a late season shotgun hunt to the East Side of Letchworth Park last year. It was a beautiful day.

P.S. - Now that deer season has officially started, I expect to see more posts my friends!!!

Hello Everyone. I am sure you are all getting ready for hunting. If you have time hit the streams and rivers. The fishing has been good and will only get better. We have been getting some nice browns and the steelhead are starting to show up. Also, there are plenty of salmon still around. Good luck to everyone in the woods and let me know if you want to hit the water.

Hi all. I went fishing with Scott yesterday morning. We trolled in 10-20 feet of water in Lake Ontario by the mouth of Sandy. It was really cold out there early (we got on the water around 4:00A.M.) Anyway, we hooked up four times. I ended up catching one nice steelhead (see picture) and fighting another large fish for awhile. We were off the water by 8:00. All in all it was a fun morning. I learned a lot about down-rigging and trolling for salmon. I heard some trout (browns) have moved into the stream along with the salmon. Next weekend should be fun if we can get away from John's wedding for a few hours. Catch you later. Joe
