What a fishing day I had on Silver Lake today. Last night I went out with Jocelyn for an hour or so in the late afternoon. She caught a perch, but I didn't catch anything. I did however break off on fish two times, so I knew there were some nice fish around. I went out fishing with Mr. Baker this morning from 7:30-11:30. The fishing started out really slow. By 10:00 we had only caught a couple of decent bass. So we left our usual go to spots (flower garden and east side weed hole) and started searching for fish. We found a few fish about halfway up the lake on the western shore, just before the country club. There we caught several decent fish each in about forty-five minutes. That's where Mr. Baker caught the fish in the picture.
We decided we would call it a day after making a few casts right in front of his house (east side halfway up the lake). Anyway, on my second cast in front of his house I caught the monster in the pictures. It was 22" (measured) and would go about five and a half pounds (estimated by Baker). Probably the biggest bass I have ever caught. I almost kept it for mounting, but decided to let it go and breed. We ended up catching several more fish in the next few minutes before calling it a day. Overall, it was a great day: many big bluegills, several nice perch, about fifteen good bass, and a monster largemouth. All fish came on texas rigged live worms. I broke off five times on good fish in the last two days. I definitely will re-spool with eight pound test before heading out again, but the big fish are biting. Get out there and catch some!

Ive seen bigger...
Yeah...on TV. I've fished with you...I know what you have seen my friend. If you weren't so busy golfing constantly maybe you could get out there and catch a fish worth taking a picture of. That way you wouldn't have to keep posting stupid pictures of guys from TV and magazines with fish. "I've seen bigger"...ha...go suck an egg.
Mr. Baker makes a hunting/fishing blog appearance! That's good times for anyone with Perry connections.
And with how terrible I am at golf, maybe I should divert time awya from that and towards fishing -- I promise I can't fish as badly as I golf.
John I dont know, I've fished with you before, ive seen what you can do to a reel...
Everytime I take you fishing you seem to conveniently forget to bring the digital camera. And, since I work a job that doesnt give me 35 holidays and most of the summer off, I actually have to work during the week, not fish.
I havent heard "go suck and egg" for years!! =]
Of course, you did have time to golf four times last week, but I understand that you don't have several weeks vacation time each year to take whenever you want. Oh wait, you do. And I get stuck with vacations in late December *(after deer season)and March (before ice out). Plus, I haven't had a summer off since I was thirteen. And finally, we have never caught a bass together that would even rival the one I caught yesterday, regardless of me being a big slacker with the camera (which is true). Of course when I bring the camera we don't catch any fish. At least when I forget it we catch a few decent fish. Anyway, let's just plan on fishing Saturday (with the camera) and catching some nice fish. Then you can show me your monster bass.
Just to clarify -
Golfing takes an 1.5 hours, is a five minute drive, and is free.
Fishing is a 2 hour round trip and costs me $50+ in gas per trip. Its harder to buzz over to the lake after work for the last few hours of daylight.
On the other hand, my future "cottage built for two (plus 6 babies)" will be closer to said lakes and make fishing more convenient and cost effective.
While that is probably the biggest northern bass i have ever seen, you still havent caught a carp (twice) on a soft plastic jig... so i guess i still have you there.
That being said, see you Saturday on the Water and likely Friday night at some nutreul venue.
Tiger is at least as caucasian as Larry...if not more.
Why's it gotta be a black and white thing...
